A Hidden Magic
Hey all! [wave]

This is just a preliminary heads-up to let you know that I'm working on revising A Hidden Magic for publication, and in fact I'm close to finishing. I have a verbal agreement to get it submitted by Thanksgiving, and I still think I can make that, or close. [crossed fingers]

What that means is the clock is ticking on Hidden Magic 1.0. Once version 2.0 is finished, I'll be taking 1.0 down, so if you want a copy of the original fanfic version, grab it soon.

So, what next?

Kind of bored. Things to do but don't want to do them.  But don't know what I want to do, so a brief SG-1 break.  Maybe then I'll wake up enough to do the things I have to do.

Long day at an all day program, 3rd of 4 and feeling like I'm behind in it all.

But I wasn't at work, so that was a plus.

I'm getting into Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Clarke, not loving it, but interested enough, it's a little slow, but I think it should pick up now that I've hit part 2, I hope.

I've got to start thinking Christmas presents for family and I'm stuck. Family doesn't have many ideas either.

I've had the day off, which is nice, except the cat wants me to hold her which makes it difficult to do anything. I'm trying to compromise but she's being stubborn.

I'm reading Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. I'm not loving it yet, but it's ok. Going to make popcorn and curl up and read some more, and the cat can sit on my lap and be happy. Oh, maybe I'll make some tea too.

Watched some Sons of Anarchy and needlepointing. Don't think it's going to be my thing, but I'll give it a couple more episodes, there is a Scottish guy in it and I do love the accent.  And Katy Segal is interesting.

Had a couple of odd dreams last night, one was Edge from U2 talking to me about his kids, and the other was me shopping for dresses with Abby from the NCIS show.

Though both fics are Castiel/Dean... okay a smidgen of Sam/Castiel in Melting--hee & I was doing just that- melting at the thought of Sam/Castiel together... now with this vid, I really want the fic, just pretty pretty pretty!

So if anyone has some Castiel/Sam, or plotty 3some Dean/Castiel/Sam please send, point the way...

No Pledge of Allegiance
...until there actually is liberty and justice for all. That's what ten-year-old Will Phillips says, and he's acting on it, declining to stand for the Pledge at school because his family has gay friends who aren't being treated equally under the law -- who are being deprived of the right to marry, or to adopt children.

Predictably, Will is being harassed for his stance, first by a substitute teacher and (of course) by some of the more nasty and ignorant students at his school. (Although to be fair, this is only elementary school and I'd bet cookies that the students who are taunting and harassing him are just reflecting the views and behavior of their parents, so the shame is on them for not setting a better example.)

Will's parents support him, though, and got the school administration to admit that he's not required to stand for the Pledge, that he does have the right to sit through it.

And what about the substitute teacher who tried to bully him into participating, even threatening to get his mother and grandmother (whom she knew, although obviously not very well) on his case? Since he hadn't broken any rules in refusing to stand for the Pledge, Will's mother asked when they could expect an apology from that teacher. Well, the principal didn't see that as "necessary." Of course not. [eyeroll]

Will has an excellent sense of right and wrong, though, and I applaud his stand, and also his parents for supporting him in doing what's right. Read more about Will and the Pledge incident in this Arkansas Times article, and more commentary by John Brummett, a columnist with the Arkansas News. If nothing else, Mr. Brummett's suggested alternate Pledge is entertaining, and unfortunately apt.

Book Pile
I was trying to read Clash of Kings by Martin, but it  has been a while since I read the first one that I can't remember the characters and their relationships and I'm all confused and slightly annoyed.

So, I decided to switch to Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell by Clarke or perhaps Cryptonomicon by Stephenson.

This is all for a little reading challenge to read a big book by the end of the year, and I could do it, but I have 4  others I need to read and 8 or 9 I'd like to read by the end of the year.

I have to read:
Bitter Sweets by Farooki
Diablerie by Mosley
Killer Artist by Silva
Notes from the Underground by Dostoevsky

I'd like to read:
Spinsters by Kennedy
How I Live Now by Rosoff
Valencia by Tea
Saints of Augustine by Ryan
and a few others that aren't close by and I forgot the titles.

So, it's a race!

Work a little hectic and whiny co-workers complaining.

But I did finish the book for the book group, Little Stranger by Sarah Waters. Still thinking about it, but not in a good way. It was excrutiatingly dull to get through.  Was it a ghost/poltergeist/haunted house or just mental breakdowns? I hated reading it and didn't like the characters but am still thinking about why and why I didn't like the way the story was told.  Group discussion on Monday.

A friend has given me the Sons of Anarchy dvds to watch, she says it's a guilty pleasure. I'll be watching this weekend.
